Tadao Takashima worked as both an actor and a jazz musician in Japan. His film career included over one hundred titles, with notable roles in Toho productions like *King Kong vs. Godzilla*, *Atragon*, and *Frankenstein vs. Baragon*. Beyond film, he performed in stage musicals—among them *My Fair Lady*—and appeared on various television programs.
While studying at Kwansei Gakuin University, Takashima played in a jazz band. He left school before graduating to join the Shintoho studio, making his acting debut in 1952. In 1962, he starred alongside Yū Fujiki in *King Kong vs. Godzilla*, and the two later worked together in several popular comedy films about salarymen. He also appeared in *Son of Godzilla* and *Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla*.
His ability to sing helped him become a romantic lead, which led to stage work. In 1963, he played Professor Henry Higgins in a production of *My Fair Lady*. Television appearances included the quiz show *Quiz! Do-re-mi-fa-don!* and the cooking program *Gochisosama*.
Takashima married Hanayo Sumi, a former Takarazuka Revue member, in 1963. Their first son was killed in 1963 at five months old by the family maid. Two other sons, Masahiro and Masanobu, both became actors. In 1998, Takashima developed depression but later recovered. He died of natural causes at his Tokyo home on 26 June 2019 at age 88.
